Why is Kim Kardashian so popular ?

We’ve been having this dilemma from the beginning, since we first heard of the Kardashian sisters. What exactly are they good at? Music, film, politics or science? Or is it the marketing skills of Kris Jenner, the girls’ mother?

Last year, the Kardashian family built an empireworth $ 65 million, more than famous actors like Angelina Jolie, Sandra Bullock or Tom Cruise managed to achieve, hollywoodreporter.com claims.

The five Kardashian sisters, Kourtney, 31, Kim, 30, Khloe, 26, Kendall, 15, and Kylie,13, earned last year a whooping $ 65 million from TV shows like “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” or various contracts signed by Kris Jenner marketing with companies interested to promote the stars.

Kim has been the face of Skechers shoes in a Super Bowl ad, which cost the company three million dollars for 30 seconds of broadcast.

At 30, Kim is by far the best known of the sisters, as she can reach up to $ 250,000 just to attend an event, while publishing a single post on Twitter, which is read by six million fans, reaches $ 25,000. Kim has posed nude in W Magazine and Playboy.

Kim was also the fourth most searched person in the world on Google, after Justin Bieber, Katy Perry and Selena Gomez.

The Kardashian family’s story and that of the popularity she’s enjoying today started with a porn video of Kim and a former boyfriend, rapper Ray J, that Kris Jenner sold to Vivid Entertainment.

In February 2007, her daughter told her about the record and, since Jenner was trying to turn their family life into the subject of a reality show, the decision to sell the content was pretty quick.

“I thought, ‘Oh well, there goes the reality show,’ ” says Jenner, who is also the Kardashian’s the manager, with a commission of 10% of the family’s collections.

It all risked turning into a scandal that would have put the family in a bad light, but Jenner, who claims she never saw the content of the video, hired an expert in communication, in an attempt to soften the situation.

“My job was trying to take my kids’ 15 minutes and turn it into 30,” Kris recalls. Finally, the record was bought by Vivid Entertainment for $ 5 million and eventually became the best selling DVD of the past ten years.
